Renowned Aston Martin specialist and dealer Nicholas Mee & Co has announced that it will be offering a trinity of Aston Martin DB5 Vantages for sale for a total of £4m ($5.67m). The Hatfield-based specialist describes the sale as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.
The trio of Astons took 12 years for the current owner to assemble, and they will be shown to the public for the first time at the London Concours on June 8-10. The cars will bestow their presence on the lawns of the Honourable Artillery Company headquarters for all three days of the event, and join the esteemed company of many special cars, including the personal Jaguar E-type of Malcolm Sayer.
Aston Martin’s Newport Pagnell factory produced around 1000 DB5s between 1963 and 1965, and just 66 of these cars were the more powerful Vantage models, making the triptych of cars on offer exceptionally rare.
The Vantage models benefitted from an extra 40bhp over the 282bhp generated by the standard DB5, yielding a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds, which, for the early 1960s, was highly impressive. This sale is made all the more remarkable by the fact that the three cars each represent distinct DB5 bodystyles: Coupé, Volante and Shooting Brake. Incredibly, just one Shooting Brake DB5 Vantage was built, making the car offered outstandingly special.
The future owner can rest assured that each of the three Astons is accompanied by detailed documentation and history, with “original build details, BMIHT certificates, maintenance records, ownership documentation and restoration particulars” according to the seller.
Nicholas Mee & Co’s founder, Nicholas Mee, said: “In the 40 or more years I have been dealing in Aston Martin cars, I have never been more excited than to offer this fabulous collection of iconic DB5 Vantages. Each one of them is extremely rare, they are all in a beautifully restored condition, and we are delighted to bring to market this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a collector to invest in this unique DB5 Vantage collection.”
He continued: “The DB5 is the most iconic model ever produced during Aston Martin’s 108-year history of building cars. This collection of DB5 Vantages, covering every bodystyle manufactured, I feel sure will forever be recognised as the ultimate Vantage collection.”
