Say hello to the new Lamborghini Temerario – the replacement for the long-lived Huracán. Revealed during Monterey Car Week 2024, the Temerario features an all-new twin-turbocharged V8 engine that revs to a vertiginous 10,000rpm – and it’s a plug-in hybrid.
This is new ground for Lamborghini, because – uniquely among supercar manufacturers – the company has utilised a V8 powerplant only rarely in its lifetime. This 3995cc unit is a dry-sumped hot-V V8, which develops 800bhp at 9000rpm (plus 538lb ft of torque) without electric assistance. A 3.8kWh battery and three electric motors – one between the engine and gearbox, and two on the front axle – take power to 920bhp. A Diamond Like Carbon coating for the cam finger followers means the engine can reach 10,000rpm, although it’s pegged back to a ‘mere’ 10,000rpm. Although the hybrid system is there to add extra performance, Lamborghini claims carbon dioxide emissions are cut by more than 50 percent over those of the Huracán’s naturally aspirated V10.
As you can imagine, the Temerario is rather quick – 0-62mph is said to take just 2.7 seconds, and you’ll eventually hit the limiter at 210mph. The latest Lamborghini also features a new eight-speed DCT gearbox, located transversely behind the engine to allow space for the battery pack. The Temerario also has a new architecture that is bespoke to the car; nothing is shared with sister company Audi, Lamborghini says.
Made from alloy, the newcomer weighs 1690kg, and has 20 percent improved torsional rigidity over the Huracán. As with its bigger brother, the Temerario features the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo system, which offers torque vectoring, drift mode and 13 different drive modes.
An Alleggerita package will be available from launch, offering the option of Bridgestone Potenza Sport Race tyres, carbonfibre options for the bonnet, side skirts and under panels, fixed polycarbonate side windows (saving 450g) and more besides. Further options include carbonfibre wheels and a titanium exhaust.
Lamborghini says the Temerario has double the rear downforce of the Huracán Evo. The company claims the daytime running lights help send air from the bumper to the side radiators, while the drag-optimised wing mirrors direct airflow to the roof. The Temerario also features larger vortex generators than the Huracán and, in an attempt to keep the turbochargers working well, cooling performance is up by 30 percent. Brake-disc cooling is said to be better by 20 percent, too.
Inside, a new 18-way adjustable comfort seat is available, although carbon-shell bucket seats are also optional. Lamborghini has also made an effort to create a much bigger interior – there’s 34mm more headroom, 46mm more legroom and improved visibility.
No prices have yet been announced, but first deliveries are due in 2025.
