The second edition of the Summer Veteran Car Run will see 32 pre-1905 motor cars weave their way through the agrarian backdrop of Surrey and West Sussex, UK on July 20, 2023.
Acting as a prologue to November’s legendary London to Brighton Veteran Car Run – the world’s longest-running motoring event – the Summer Veteran Car Run allows participants the opportunity to test their vehicles on a 54-mile tour that sets off from the Royal Automobile Club’s Woodcote Park clubhouse near Epsom, Surrey.
From there, participants will venture into the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, taking in the idyllic villages of Brockham, Charlwood and Rusper, and then head back through the scenic Mole Valley. Once the tour is completed, the cars will be judged in an informal concours d’elegance and prize-giving in the grounds of the RAC’s clubhouse.
The full-capacity event includes historic cars from well known manufacturers such as Renault and Peugeot, while arcane marques such as Argyll, Dennis, Gladiator, Mors and Norfolk will undoubtedly intrigue spectators.
Seven examples of the De Dion-Bouton are entered into the competition this year, making it the most popular model, while a 1904 Richard-Brasier with a 16bhp four-cylinder engine is the most powerful machine taking part.
“With the sun higher in the sky than it is in November, the Summer Run offers owners of these incredible veteran horseless carriages a really wonderful opportunity to enjoy their cars in rather more relaxing conditions,” said RAC chairman Ben Cussons.
The 127th London to Brighton Veteran Car Run will get underway at dawn on November 5, 2023.
