The Madison’s Auctions Automotive Art and Automobilia online sale is currently live and closes on March 6 at 12pm Pacific Standard Time. Many of the most exciting lots listed on this year’s docket are offered from Part One of a one-owner collection of automobilia relating to the legendary Porsche 917 race car.
The collection’s headline lots include a rare selection of period photographs from the set of Steve McQueen’s Le Mans, an authentic Porsche 917-30 Team Penske Sunoco jacket and a one-of-a-kind set-up folder handwritten by American racing driver and engineer Mark Donohue.
Bidding starts for all three items at $900, with the McQueen photographs forecast to sell for between $1200–$1800, ahead of the jacket and set-up folder’s identical $1200–$1600 estimates.
A 1970 Schuco remote-control Porsche 917 is another rare, high-value lot, and is described as being in “very good original condition”, although one of the model’s side decals has not been applied straight. It is expected to fetch between $1000–$1200.
Fans of Mark Donahue will also get the opportunity to bid on a framed and hand-signed autograph on a page detailing the Porsche 917-30 along with a caricature of the driver (estimate: $400–$600).
Further desirable items in the collection include original period photographs, automotive art, stickers and film posters.
