Swedish EV manufacturer Polestar has confirmed that its electric roadster concept that was showcased as the Polestar O₂ at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will be put into production.

Called the Polestar 6, the new battery powered sports car’s launch is slated for 2026 and prospective customers are now able to reserve a build slot online.

“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production,” confirmed Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”

Built upon a bespoke bonded aluminium platform, the Polestar 6 will be equipped with the 800-Volt electric powertrain that is set to  feature in the upcoming Polestar 5 saloon.

The company says that its powertrain architecture is capable of providing up to 871bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque in dual-motor form. Consequently, Polestar estimates that the production-spec 6 will be capable of 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.

Polestar will celebrate the launch of the 6 with a limited run of 500 numbered ‘LA Concept’ models that allude to the preconcept car’s unveiling in Los Angeles back in March. Each of the 500 cars will be finished in Sky Blue and fitted with the unique 21-inch wheels seen on the Polestar O₂ concept.

The announcement presages Polestar’s display of its electric roadster concept at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering events during California’s Monterey Car Week on August 18-21.
