The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, US has announced its latest exhibit: Eyes on the Road: Art of the Automotive Landscape.
Staged in the Armand Hammer Foundation Gallery, the exhibit displays a mixture of futuristic concept cars and artwork from the likes of Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha and David Hockney. The exhibit, which runs until November 2024, is divided into various sections, including Vehicle Concepts, Sign Language, At the Pump, and Highways and Street Art.
Rare science fiction-style concepts from the 1930s to the 1950s make up the Vehicle Concepts section of the display, and Sign Language exhibits road signs discovered traversing national highways through the prism of contemporary artists. At the Pump features art pieces from Ruscha and Vik Muniz, while Street Art offers the opportunity to take in works from Mr Brainwash, Steve O’Loughlin (whose Freeway Box was created specifically for the exhibition) and Larry Yust.
The concept cars on display include the 1934 Dymaxion, the 1956 American Motors Astra-Gnome, 1955 Ghia Gilda and 1969 Chevrolet Astro III. Andy Warhol’s Mobil Gas (1985), David Hockney’s Mulholland Drive (1986) and Ruscha’s Standard Station (1966) will be among the art pieces on display. More details can be found here.
