Schumacher’s personal Ferrari California offered for sale

A one-of-a-kind 2009 Ferrari California owned by Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has been offered for sale. Hagerty currently values a Concours condition car at £94,800 ($117,800), but the provenance of Schumi’s California means it will be far more valuable.

Schumacher purchased the Ferrari new, and it served as his personal car in Switzerland until the seven-time World Champion suffered a serious head injury in December 2013 while skiing in Méribel, France.

The Prancing Horse is finished in an understated shade of Argento Nürburgring Silver and has just 9720 miles on its odometer. Inside, Schumacher’s famous ‘MS’ logo is uniquely stitched into the headrests.

Under the bonnet lies a 4.3-litre 460bhp version of Ferrari’s much-loved F136 naturally aspirated flat-plane V8. This allows the California to accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a heady top speed of 193mph.

Schumacher’s car is being sold from Switzerland via Monaco-based dealer Boutsen Classic Cars. The price is only available on request, so it will be fascinating to see how much the Schumacher provenance is worth – particularly after the recent release of Hagerty’s Power List

This is the second time an ex-Michael Schumacher car has been offered for sale this year, after the Benetton B192 that the German used in his debut F1 season was offered by Aguttes on April 25. The B192 was estimated to sell for between €9m-€12m (£7.5m-£10m) but failed to meet its reserve.
