Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale revealed: less weight, more power, big aero

This is the Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale – the latest iteration of the MC20 supercar, revealed to the world at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week 2024. Maserati has had good success in the Fanatec GT2 European Series with the LP Racing Team, and this car acts at the inspiration for the roadgoing Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale.

The Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale sees power swell to 640bhp – 10bhp more than the standard MC20 – via revisions to boost pressure and a freer-flowing exhaust system. This might not sound like a huge gain, but it’s enough to make the Stradale the most powerful roadgoing Maserati ever. All-out it will hit 201mph, and will beat the standard MC20 around the Misto Alfa track at Balocco by more than five seconds; it will also sprint from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds.

A major part of the performance increase is down to a weight-loss programme that has seen 60kg shaved from the MC20’s kerbweight. New-for-the-GT2 bigger carbon-ceramic brake discs have been developed in partnership with Brembo, aided by new cooling ducts front and rear. The 20in single-nut forged wheels offer a 19kg weight reduction compared with the standard MC20, while the air ducts have been extended; the rear diffuser has also been revised to optimise airflow.

The Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale also has a new mode, available only via Performance Pack upgrades, called Corsa Evo. The first package offers Michelin semi-slick tyres, an electronic limited-slip differential, carbon-ceramic brakes plus revised stability and ABS, while Performance Plus adds four-point belts and a fire extinguisher. The Corsa Evo driving mode is said to come directly from the GT2 racing car, with four settings that alter the electronic diff, ABS, stability programme and traction control.

Other interior highlights include a redesigned, lighter centre console, shift lights on the Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel (designed with input from MC12-driving FIA GT World Champion Andrea Bertolini) and blue Alcantara carbonfibre Sabelt sports seats. These are available in various different sizes, with manual adjustment – and if it’s all a bit too hardcore, Sport seats clad in Alcantara are also available.

A new rear wing provides 500kg of downforce in the high-drag setting – 130kg at the front and 370kg at the rear, up from 35kg at the front and 110kg at the rear in the standard car. Further aerodynamic revisions include a new bonnet, carbonfibre bumper with larger splitter, the aforementioned brake-cooling ducts, plus a GT2-derived carbonfibre bonnet. Maserati says the MC20 GT2 Stradale uses the same suspension geometry as was developed for the GT2 racing car, and has a dedicated racing calibration.

A selection of new colours have also been announced, four from the standard range and seven from the Fuoriserie customisation programme – including the intersting-sounding Powder Nude Textured. Extra carbonfibre parts can be specified for the front bumper, rear diffuser, side skirts, bonnet, roof and the air intakes on the front wings.

Despite the car’s more hardcore nature, the Maserati MC20 GT2 Stradale is still available with nose lift, a full complement of ADAS tech and a Sonus Faber sound system. You can option a 12-speaker, 695-watt version upgrade, too; the infotainmment system has also been overhauled.
