Maserati debuts GranCabrio with full-fat 542bhp ‘Trofeo’ power

Say hello to the new Maserati GranCabrio, the open-top version of the GranTurismo that debuted last year. The design does not deviate far from Klaus Busse’s original roofed styling, although the car is being launched with just one engine choice – the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 is available in Trofeo tune, with 542bhp on tap.

The announcement came somewhat out of the blue, so key facts such as performance data, pricing and when the car will be available to order were not clear at the time of writing. However, there are some details that have trickled out: the fabric roof can be put away in as little as 14 seconds at road speeds of up to 50km/h, and the model is available in five different colours.

Maserati also says there is ample space for four people, with front-seat passengers benefitting from a standard-fit neck warmer complete with three levels of warmth intensity. A manually operated wind stopper is an option.

Details on whether the GranCabrio will be offered with the same various levels of internal-combustion engine tune as the GranTurismo are unclear, although it seems likely that a drop-top version of the Folgore, the electric GranTurismo, will be made available at some point.
