The annual Audrain Concours and Motor Week returns to the idyllic coastal setting of Rhode Island in New England, US from October 2-6, 2024.
2024 marks the fifth running of the East Coast-based concours, which has grown over the years to become a multifaceted motoring celebration that includes a Tour d’Elegance, expert seminars, exclusive social events, a Bonhams auction and much more besides.
The expanded five-day classic motoring event begins with a public preview of Bonhams’ auction at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 2. The sale is scheduled for Friday October 4.
A varied selection of over 150 collector cars will be gunning for the coveted Best of Show prize this year
Leading Bonhams’ Audrian Concours Auction catalogue is a rare 1954 Kaiser-Darrin Sport Convertible that was the 233rd of 435 examples built. The Kaiser-Darrin is being offered without reserve alongside a 1962 Facel Vega HK500 Coupé and a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB. At the time of writing, pre-auction estimates had not yet been published.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame serves as Audrain Motor Week’s hub, opening daily at 10:00am from October 3 onwards. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk around the historic grounds and view the eclectic selection of motor cars on display.
An exciting event taking place in the Village this year is the Emory ‘Outlaw Reunion’ and seminar which takes place from 12:30pm to 1:30pm on Saturday October 5. Famed car builders Rod and Gary Emory will host the gathering, revealing their Outlaw vehicles’ creation process and inspirations. Key displays include the restored 1951 Porsche 356/02-063, marking the brand’s Le Mans debut, and the unique Porsche 356 Emory Special.
The Outlaw Reunion seminars are complemented by a raft of other talks throughout the week, led by notable figures such as Jay Leno, Wayne Carini and Audrain CEO Donald Osborne, with topics ranging from the hot rod industry to entrepreneurship, automotive careers and more.
Friday morning sees The Gathering – another Motor Week highlight. Held at Doris Duke’s Rough Point estate, this automotive garden party takes place from 11:00am and features cars from local New England collectors displayed in the grounds.
Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance remains the focal point of Motor Week and is preceded by the Audrain Tour d’Elegance that kicks off at 8:00am on Saturday morning. The event mirrors the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance by allowing enthusiasts a sneak peek of the concours cars on the open road ahead of the main event at 8:30am on Sunday morning.
The tour begins at Second Beach and meanders its way up Aquidneck Island before heading down the coast of Tiverton to Little Compton. From there, the glittering cavalcade will retrace its wheel tracks back to Newport with the route finishing at the La Forge Restaurant.
Though only established in 2019, the Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance consistently showcases exceptional vehicles, a trend set to continue in 2024. A varied selection of over 150 collector cars will be gunning for the coveted Best of Show prize this year, with highlights including a 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Corsica-style Cabriolet, a 1951 Porsche 356 SL Gmünd Le Mans Coupé and a 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Vignale Coupé, among many others.
