Peter Auto has announced the first list of cars and drivers that will be participating in the 11th edition of Le Mans Classic on June 29 to July 2, 2023. This year’s Historic racing event is particularly special, as 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Le Mans Classic is open to racing cars that competed at Le Mans between 1923 and 1981. Peter Auto confirms that it has already received over 600 entries, with 275 machines confirmed to date. Preference is given to entries that have previously competed at the Le Mans 24 Hours, with a total of 750 cars taking part across the weekend.
The magnitude of this year’s event is reflected in the number of big names that already feature on the race card – 2009 Formula 1 World Champion and Le Mans Classic debutant Jenson Button being an obvious example.
Joining Button on the grid are the likes of five-time Le Mans winner Emanuele Pirro, Le Mans and F1 veteran Jan Magnussen, two-time Le Mans GT1 winner Darren Turner, endurance racing legend Brian Redman and Vanina Ickx, daughter of ‘Monsieur Le Mans’ Jacky Ickx.
Of the 750 cars on the race card, 300 are entered into special support-race categories such as Endurance Racing Legends, Group C Racing, Porsche Classic Race Le Mans and The Benjafield’s Le Mans Centenary Race.
