India’s Oberoi Hotels and Resorts has announced that it will be holding a new Concours d’Elegance event at the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur from February 2024.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Pichola in northwestern India, the event takes over from what was formerly known as the Cartier Concours d’Elegance. The event promises to showcase some of the world’s most significant vehicles, including those owned by Indian royalty and the country’s foremost collectors.
The concours will be curated by automotive historian Manvendra Singh Barwani, and entries will be judged by an experienced panel led by Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance chairwoman Sandra Button. Both motorcycles and cars are eligible for curation, providing the vehicle in question successfully passes a rigorous selection process.
“Oberoi Concours d’Elegance will take the heritage of automobile culture and the history of India to an international level, showcasing the finest vintage and classic automobiles and motorcycles,” says Barwani. “Moreover, with Indian restoration work on par with international standards, we can compete with international entries on our home stage.”
Budget constraints were cited as the factor behind the axing of the Cartier Concours d’Elegance back in 2020, along with Cartier’s waning interest. The inaugural Cartier Concours d’Elegance was held in 2008 and ran for six years before its cancellation.
