Famed Aston Martin and Jaguar designer Ian Callum CBE is to produce a limited production run of the Lounge Chair and Ottoman design, a concept of which was first shown last year.
Limited to 50 pieces, the design features a carbonfibre structure with moulded plywood shells that’s covered in a smoked eucalyptus veneer. The star-shaped base is crafted from aluminium, and finished by hand to complement the colour of the carbonfibre spine. There are ten leather trim options put together by the Callum team – this one features Delta Blue Bridge of Weir leather – but the firm says ultimate colour choice is infinite.
“Creating a chair to meet both the functional demands and desired form is always a great challenge for the designer,” Ian said. “This started out as a design study, but we received so much interest that we decided to create a limited run of 50 chairs. While furniture does afford some design flexibility that cars don’t, you still have ergonomics, anthropometrics and overall comfort still at play, so has brought with it new and exciting challenges for the Callum team.”
Production is due to begin in early 2023, and several examples have already been specified by customers. The set costs £8500 plus local taxes for an item in one of the ten specified colours, although pricing for bespoke leather colours is available on application. More details are available here.
