Goodwood has confirmed that the Festival of Speed will take place as planned from Thursday July 8 to Sunday July 1, 2021, as one of the government’s Events Research Programme (ERP) pilot events.
It’s the news we’ve been waiting for since the planned lifting of lockdown restrictions was delayed until July 19, and there were fears that the Festival would have to be cancelled. For a full week, Goodwood was unable to confirm what was happening while it awaited a decision from the government – and sponsors, exhibitors and ticket holders were left waiting for information.
The event is sold out across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but all 2021 Festival of Speed ticket, hospitality and grandstand pass holders will now be able to attend as planned, including those with tickets rolled over from 2020. There are a limited number of Thursday tickets still available.
As a pilot event, all people on site for the Festival will need to agree to the conditions of entry set out by the Events Research Programme, including either having had both doses of the vaccine at least 14 days before the event, or proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test (taken at home or at a recognised centre free of charge) within 48 hours of the event. Goodwood says all ticket holders will be informed of the full conditions imminently.
The government’s Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston said: “We are continuing to expand the Events Research Programme’s remit to include more of our iconic cultural and sporting events, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed will now return for the first time since the pandemic broke.”
