The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering kicks off at the Quail Golf Club in Carmel, California on August 16 and the organisers have revealed the four featured classes that will headline this year’s event.
Held in a garden party atmosphere, the jaw-dropping display roster of 200 cars will be complemented by five gourmet culinary pavilions, music and live entertainment.
The four featured classes are: Tribute to World Rally Cars, 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo (930), 30th Anniversary of Koenigsegg Automotive and 100 Years of MG.

The Tribute to World Rally Cars class celebrates the World Rally Championship – the second-oldest FIA-sanctioned motor sport series after Formula 1. The Quail pays tribute to the WRC by showcasing several of the sport’s most iconic machines.
Highlights include the 1983 Lancia Abarth 037 that was driven to victory by Walter Röhrl in the 1983 Monte Carlo Rally. This was the final time a rear-wheel drive car ever won a WRC event. Complementing Röhrl’s 037 is a 1986 Lancia Delta S4 which took first and second place finishes at the 1985 RAC Rally and Monte Carlo Rally with Finnish driver Henri Toivonen at the wheel.
Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg turned 30 in 2024 and The Quail is honouring the occasion by showcasing some of the marque’s most important models. These include a 2005 CCR, which was the only CCR and the first Koenigsegg ever delivered to the US. The CCR will be joined by the 2007 Koenigsegg GT1 Competition Coupé that was auctioned off at Bonhams’ 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed sale. The GT1 Competition Coupé stands as the only race car Koenigsegg has ever built.
The third featured class celebrates the performance icon that is the Porsche 930 Turbo. Launched in 1975, the 930 started a legendary lineage of turbocharged 911s that continues to this day. The Quail organisers have confirmed a 1975 Porsche 911 Turbo that was among the first 30 vehicles produced will be in attendance, as well as another special 1975 car that was the only example not fitted with the iconic ‘whale tail’ rear spoiler from the factory.
MG celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024 and two important past models will be showcased. The first is a 1937 MG SA Reinbolt and Christé, which happens to be the only surviving example of seven vehicles commissioned with custom Carrosserie Reinbolt & Christé coachwork. The other MG is a 1949 TC sports car that was driven by Carroll Shelby to his first road racing victory in 1952.
We are honored to embark on our third decade hosting one of the world’s most distinguished motor sports celebrations,” said Kai Lermen, managing director of The Quail Golf Club. “The Peninsula Signature Events team looks forward to celebrating some iconic automotive anniversaries this year with Porsche, Koenigsegg and MG, and welcoming World Rally Cars to The Quail, along with our valued guests and sponsors.”
The featured classes will be complemented by classes for Pre- and Post-War Sports and Racing Cars, The Great Ferraris, Custom Coachwork, The Evolution of the Supercar, and Sports and Racing Motorcycles.
