The third edition of the Summer Veteran Car Run will get underway on July 18, 2024. Organised by the Royal Automobile Club, the event is a precursor to November’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run – the world’s longest-running motoring event. The 2024 date was announced by the organisers during this year’s Rétromobile classic car show in Paris.
First held in 2022, the Summer Run was devised to provide owners of pre-1905 veteran cars with the chance to sample the atmosphere of the traditional winter event in more temperate conditions.
The one-day, 45-mile Summer Run will once again begin at the RAC’s Woodcote Park clubhouse, which is nestled in 350 acres of verdant English countryside on Epsom Downs, Surrey.
Participants will then embark on a memorable day of motoring, punctuated by a pit-stop for lunch in the countryside. Afternoon tea will then be served once the cars have returned to Woodcote Park, followed by an informal concours and prize-giving. Rounding off the day will be alfresco drinks, ahead of a feast in the historic Motor House.
While the London to Brighton Run consistently attracts more than 400 entries from around the globe, just 30 entries are available for the petrol, electric and steam-powered pioneers participating in the Summer Run. The RAC expects a full entry list, which will showcase the spirit of innovation that characterised the dawn of motoring.
“The Summer Run has proven to be a wonderful warm-up for the RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, and it is now firmly established as one of the most enjoyable highlights on our calendar,” said RAC chairman Ben Cussons.
“The warmer weather of the Summer Run provides participants with a much more relaxed and sociable gathering at Woodcote Park, as well as a fabulous opportunity for veteran car owners to ready themselves and their cars for the main event later in the year.”
