Concours of Elegance announces star trio for anniversary event

The UK’s Concours of Elegance has revealed the latest bevy of star cars that will grace the lawns of Hampton Court Palace on September 2-4, 2022.

First held in 2012, the event celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and looks to once again bring some of the world’s most significant automobiles to UK shores – some for the first time.

One such car making its UK debut is a 1930 Cord L-29. Built by Auburn Automobile Company in Connersville, Indiana, it is one of only ten Broughman-bodied examples extant from the original three-year production run.

Sympathetically restored by the renowned LaVine Restorations, the L-29 slated for display has enjoyed success on the American and European concours circuits. It will be fascinating to see how this resplendent pre-war car fares on British soil.

Another exciting car confirmed for display is a wonderful fusion of British engineering and Italian artistry: a 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato. The Aston is the third of the MP209 ‘ultra-lightweight’ motor sport-focused examples, pairing its elegant aluminium Zagato bodywork with high-performance DB4GT underpinnings. The car was campaigned at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1961 by French privateer Jean Kerguen, where it achieved 170mph on the Mulsanne Straight.

Complementing the Aston Martin is a legendary Scaglietti and Pinin Farina-bodied Ferrari 500 Mondial racing car. Built in 1955, this extraordinarily rare machine is one of just 11 Series II models produced by Maranello, and is touted as one of the finest unrestored examples in existence.

“We really are thrilled to announce these latest star additions to our tenth anniversary show,” said Concours of Elegance CEO James Brooks-Ward. “We will once again bring the world’s rarest and most spectacular motor cars – selected from the finest international collections – to the wonderful setting of Hampton Court Palace.”
