The Bugatti Trust and Study Centre in Prescott, Gloucestershire, UK, has announced that it is holding a new exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first Grand Prix Bugatti.
Scheduled to open on May 25, 2024, the special exhibition will focus on the Bugatti Type 35. The Type 35 was first unveiled by marque founder Ettore Bugatti in August 1924 for the Grand Prix de l’Automobile Club de France weekend in Lyon, France.
Headlining the exhibition is the Type 35 raced by Ernest Friderich in the Grand Prix d’Europe on August 3, 1924. The car is on loan from the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire, and will be displayed by the Trust until October 2024.
The first original Type 35 sketch from the Bugatti Trust archives will also be on display. The sketch was made by Ettore Bugatti himself, when he penned a letter to racing drivers Vincenc ‘Čeněk’ Junek and his wife Elizabeth. The historically significant drawing was gifted by Elizabeth Junek to Bugatti Trust founder Hugh G Conway in 1968, and it will be showcased alongside what is believed to be the first Type 35 blueprint.
