Bonhams will offer a selection of race-worn helmets used by the likes of Michael Schumacher, Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso at its upcoming 2025 Miami Grand Prix auction on May 3, 2025. This memorabilia will be complemented in the sale by Jenson Button’s Brawn BGP-001 F1 car and various supercars.

Enhancing this special selection of helmets is an array of memorabilia linked to some of motor sport’s greatest drivers, including six World Champions. Collectors can look forward to items connected to legends such as Lewis Hamilton, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Damon Hill, among others.

Taking place live at the Miami International Autodrome, the auction will be held on Saturday evening after Qualifying, in conjunction with the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend.

Last year’s Miami Grand Prix auction saw a race-worn Michael Schumacher helmet cross the block for over four times its pre-auction estimate, at $114,800 (including premium). Noteworthy results are expected in this year’s edition, too.

One of the standout lots is a 1991 Shoei helmet also worn by Michael Schumacher. Believed to have been used for karting and DTM racing that year, the helmet was later fitted with sponsor stickers to resemble Schumacher’s first Benetton design. It comes with the original karting visor and carries an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000.

The helmet, worn by Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, is another big ticket item, boasting a pre-sale estimate of $25,000-$35,000. Leclerc put in a valiant performance while wearing this particular helmet, carving through the field from 14th to third place in the race – only to be ‘mugged’ by team-mate Sebastian Vettel on the final lap and demoted to a fourth-place finish.

Lando Norris’s 2023 McLaren helmet carries the next-highest estimate at $20,000-$30,000. It is said to have been worn during Bahrain testing and the early rounds of the 2023 season, where Norris secured seven podiums on his way to sixth in the Championship.

Other standout lots include Pierre Gasly’s 2021 US Grand Prix helmet ($15,000-$25,000) and Fernando Alonso’s 2022 Alpine F1 helmet ($15,000-$25,000). Also featured are race suits worn by World Champions, including Lewis Hamilton in 2023 ($10,000-$15,000), Alain Prost in 1984 ($10,000-$15,000) and Nigel Mansell in 1986 ($5000-$7000).
