Oxfordshire’s Bicester Heritage hosted its first Sunday Scramble event of 2022 on January 16, welcoming a sold-out crowd of 5000 people into the grounds of the former RAF base.
Plenty of enthusiasts seized the opportunity to have their pre-1990 classics displayed at the event, leading to a wonderfully eclectic mix of machinery that ranged from vintage pre-war models from Bugatti, Bentley and Hispano-Suiza, to modern supercars and JDM tuners. A Bugatti Type 35, Bentley Mark VI, Honda NSX Type R and Lamborghini Murcielago GT1 homage were particularly popular with attendees.
Several manufacturers also took the opportunity to display their latest models, most notably Morgan, Ecurie Ecosse and BRM. Morgan attracted plenty of attention with its public unveiling of the Plus-Four LM62, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the marque’s triumph at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1962.
The debut of Ecurie Ecosse’s LM-C, which is a Jaguar C-type-inspired sports car, looked stunning finished in its iconic blue livery in the winter morning daylight. But it was the BRM Type 15 V16 Continuation that won the crowd’s affection, with its bonnet left open to reveal the mind-blowing intricacies of its engine. A highlight of the day for many was when the Type 15 was started up, providing a rare opportunity to hear the awesome sound of its V16 in person.
2022 marks the eighth year of the popular Bicester Heritage Scramble events, which are delivered with the support of the venue’s partnership with Hagerty.
The next Sunday Scramble is scheduled at Bicester Heritage on April 24, 2022. Dan Geoghegan, Bicester Heritage CEO adds: “Spring has truly sprung, with an April Scramble promising warmer weather and the chance for all ages to explore and engage with our fantastic on-site specialists.”
