Audi is offering two of its most successful Works race cars from the 2010s – the R18 E-Tron Quattro and the RS5 DTM – for sale to the public.

The cars are being built and made available by the marque’s newly formed Audi Sport Racing Legends team. Both are fully driveable and come with full trackside support.

Audi has also announced that it will be showcasing the cars at classic events in Germany, France and the UK, and the first example is expected to be delivered this summer.

Interestingly, the race cars are being built upon original period chassis’ into fully working race machinery with reconditioned components “to strict standards and a high level of expertise”, in the words of Audi Sport managing director Rolf Michl.

“In some cases, even the developers from that era are involved in the current projects,” Michl continued. “The Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the RS 5 DTM are two of the fastest racing cars we have ever built… Our customers become part of a select circle, benefit from our motor sport expertise and receive comprehensive support.”

Both the R18 and RS5 DTM have Championship-winning pedigree, with the former claiming an imperious victory at the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours on its way to the World Endurance Championship title.

Audi states that the presentation of these machines at European classic car events marks the beginning of the vehicles’ sales phase. They will be showcased at the Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim (Germany) from May 9-11, 2025, the Le Mans Classic (France) from July 3-6, 2025, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed (UK) from July 10-13, 2025.

The programme is reminiscent of Ferrari’s Corse Clienti service, which lets customers drive the marque’s competition cars – including Formula 1 challengers – at exclusive events with full factory support. However, unlike Audi, the Italian company has never offered new builds of retired race cars, with the closest equivalent being its XX programme.
